Marc Harris “Back To Birmingham”

Marc Harris Live at Work Play March 26th, 2008 performing ‘Back To Birmingham’, a song written for Taylor Hicks. Turned out sounding like JJ Cale or Mark Knopfler so The song writer Harris decided to do it himself. John Scalici on percussion, Jay Johnson on Bass. Marc is playing a Fender Telecaster through the Boss RC 20 Looping station (pedal) and two Fender Deluxe Reverb amps. Copyright 2007 Vibeville Tunes Music Publishing ASCAP

What do you think?

Do you think we will every hear Taylor Hicks sing this song? Does the quote above rule that out? Or no?

(PS: It is a total fluke that there are three posts today. Most of the time I’m more of a once a week kind of blogger…)

I’m going to have to haul out some JJ Cale. Do you think that the song ended up sounding like JJ Cale or MK and therefore wasn’t right for Hicks? Or that the song sounded like that when Taylor did it, so it didn’t work. Or it sounded like that when Harris did it, and he liked it?

    My head hurts.

Those are the questions I’m asking myself. My first impression was your last speculation…

It will certainly be interesting if Hicks performs this song. There are some similarities to JJ Cale but more Mark Knopfler. If this is an example of some of the music we may hear on Hicks’ new CD, I’ll buy this one.
